Vista Ultimate to 2008 Server networking slows down and finally stops working
I have an active directory domain setup with windows 2008 server as the domain controller and a windows 2008 server as a file server I have folder redirection applied to desktop appdata mydocs etc. stored on the file server I have a home folder mapped to F: locally which also resides on the file server. My account is an administrator of the local machine as well as a member of the domain admins group. On a clean boot of the server everything works fine. Slowly over the course of a week things will slow down. If I try to browse my F: drive it will take 5 to 10 seconds to refresh. If I open an application with personal settings stored in the AppData folder it will take 5-15 seconds to open. Eventually I lose the ability to connect to my F: drive with an error saying network share not available or permissions incorrect. When i try to browse the server shares on the file server I am only able to browse through my redirected folder shares. I can't see my F: drive share or any other shares on the server even listed. The only shares listed are my redirected folders. All the folders in question have the same share and security settings, I even tried explicitly adding my account to other folders share and security settings and it seemed to make no difference. I could still only see the shares for my redirected folders. Any ideas for a solution? Any thought on how to troubleshoot this issue? None of the event logs I can see show any errors that might correlate to this problem.

Hi, I suspect that the Windows Vista machine encounters performance issue, the system may run out of resources such as paged pool memory. Therefore, the issue disappears every time you restart the system. Based on my experience, we need to collect related dump file, performance monitor and memory pool monitor to analysis/troubleshoot this kind of issue. However, please understand that debugging is out of our Forum support boundary. Id like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance, the support professionals there are better qualified to assist you. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS Before that, you could install the latest driver for the network adapter and perform a clean boot in Windows Vista andmonitor to check if the issue reoccurs: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 In addition, if SP1 has not been installed, please install the Windows Vista SP1 on this machine. Hope it helps.

It was indexing that was causing the issue, i configured indexing to not scan the offline files and things are running great.
