Vista Ultimate client cannot map network drives?
Have a Vista Ultimate client who cannot map network drives i.e (M:\\ server123\userxyz) - Notes: The computer and the user (domain admin) are members of the domain. Only one subnet and no DNS /DHCP issues. - Ive tried messing with this registry hack o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>Lsa o LmCompatibilityLevel 1 (changed from default of 0) - Even though I was pretty sure this was the wrong path to go down, I figured it was worth a shot. I messed with Enabling Network Mapping in Windows Vista by changing the local security policy. o Local Computer Policy Administrative Templates Network o Link Layer Topology Discovery Turned on Mapper I/O (LLTDIO) driver & Responder (RSPNDR) driver None of this worked or actually did anything to fix this problem that seems to be a common issue in Vista? I started a new thread because nothing was working. Any ideas? There must be a hotfix or something.

Windows cannot access \\server123\userxyz check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnaose. Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found. --- Additionally I cannot add networkprinters. It finds them from the Windows 2000 Serverprint server/domain controler, trys to connect then gives this error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler onthe server or restart the server machine." The spooler is running. I have tried restarting it. No other Windows XP clients have issues with the server print spooler. ---

Alright, first for the map try domain\username or username@domain for the username. For the second error, is the user member of the administrators group within Vista?, try this and let me know, since, adding printers requires administrative priviledges... let me know. Anyway, a lot of things have changed since vista, take a look a this site http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/community/default.mspx. Rgds.

> Alright, first for the map try domain\username or username@domain for the username. Under "What network folder would you like to map? .... the Example: \\server\share So I'm a little confused but tried your idea anyway.... domain\server1\share2 domain\\server1\share2 It just errors out stating the network path (see above for paths tried) could not be found. (same error as before) I tried "Connect using a different user name." Even tried another domain admin username/password but did not work. >For the second error, is the user member of the administrators group within Vista?, try this and let me know, > since, adding printers requires administrative priviledges... let me know. Yes the user is a member of the administrator group within Vista. I checked under User Accounts. It lists the user, the proper domain and Administrator Group. Also when adding a printer I have also havetried using the option " Run as administrator". But no luck. > Anyway, a lot of things have changed since vista, take a look a this site http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/community/default.mspx. I will check out this site but I don't your telling me to post my problem to a different community? Any other ideas?

No way!! sorry if you got confused, that link is just information on Vista's changes, it is just for you tu check out when you have time... When mapping the drives, type your password either domain\username or username@domain on the username field. As for the printer error... is the printer a network printer?

> When mapping the drives, type your password either domain\username or username@domain on the username field. ok, I tried that under "Connect using a different username." username@domain.com login unsuccesful domain\username WORKS! Very strange although haven't tried rebooting yet to see if it holds. Why is this? I swear I'm logged into a domain account. > As for the printer error... is the printer a network printer? Yes all the printers I try to add are network printers. I've triedadding ones from different servers but no luck.It finds allthem but just cannot add them. (see error information in pervious posts) Again, Windows XP clients have no issues. Based on the fact I had toprefix my domain when mapping a nework drive, how would I do it with the printers? All the different ways of adding them give the that error. The werid part is I can see all of them! 1) Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer Select a printer (finds all of them, but see error above) 2) The pinter that I want isn't listed - Find a printer in the director (finds them again, I cannot add, same error) - Select a shared printer by name (doesn't work) - Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname (haven't tried this yet) FYI: I can print to a local printer just fine. Any ideas?

Maybe you needed to restart the computer and double check if you are loggin on a domain account, remember vista's startup screen es quite different from Xp's... As for the printer, try connecting it by tcp/ip, but you need to download vista's driver for each printer... Nevertheless, this is not the solution though, try loggin in as another user not used before on this computer and remember to add him to the local administrators group... Let me know. Brgds.

>Maybe you needed to restart the computer and double check if you are loggin on a domain account, remember vista's > startup screen es quite different from Xp's... I am 100% sure I am loggin into a domain account with local administrator privledges added. Computer was restarted and it did not hold any of the mapped drives I just succesfully did. Now I cannot remapp them either. Note when I attempt toremap them and click "Connect using a different user name. This pops up "Connect As By default, you will connect to the network folder as domain\username. To connect..." BUT I just put in the same domain\userman! Same "windows cannot access \\server1\share2" message as before.... > As for the printer, try connecting it by tcp/ip, but you need to download vista's driver for each printer... Nevertheless, this > is not the solution though, try loggin in as another user not used before on this computer and remember to add him to > the local administrators group... Let me know. I'll go down this path about TCP/IP but your right, this CANNOT be the soolution. I did login as another user. another domain admin account, addedthat userto the local admintrators group. It has the same issues as above. It clearly states I am on the domain but it's like I'm not. I am so lost on this issue.

have you allowed the File an Printer sharing in the Firewall rules? And in the antivirus if you use an antivirus with firewall, just turn it off, and, turn off all firewalls and internet security programs, and test the mapping once again...

Network and Sharing Center - File sharing - On - Printer sharing - Off (but I think this is for sharing a printer on this machine, right?) I'll turn it on and play with it but doesn't seem like the right path. Windows Firewall It was on so I turned Windows Firewall off & tried to mapp a drive. Same error. Tried to add a printer, no luck there either although interesting to note I don't see the printers I used to. Now it's nothing. My problem is getting worst. I considered turing Windows Firewall back on and messing around with opening various ports as detailed out here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx but figured again this was more than necessary, especially if Windows Firewall is Off. No antivirus or additional firewall programseverloaded on this system, yet.

I'm really sorry not being much of a help for you, I'm running out of options as well. Keep the file sharing on, and turn the firewall back on, it was just for testing purposes... Just a shot, Allow full access on sharing and security on the folder permission you are trying to map and try making this bat file, copy the lines bellow on notepad: ********************** copy below************************************************** @echo off net use l: / delete net use l: \\computer\shared_folder (Replace with the computer name and the shared folder) *********************** copy above ************************************************* Save it as map.bat and run it on the computer... Let me know your result.

Jesus,I am having the same problem. I have a Vista OS trying to map a shared directory on a Windows 2000 server. Did all you suggested here, but still cannot map to the shared drive. It gave me a system error 86.

Hi Mario, Try openning the shared resourse from the vista computer and see if you get an error... Another thing, check out the folder's security permission, since the vista user should have at least list folder permission in order to open it... Let me know, Brgds.
