Vista Ultimate Client can't get ip address from win2k3Server
Hello everyone,I am new to win2k3 server, I have installed windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition on a PC and enabled DHCP with scope 192.168.0.100- 106. The server has a static ip of 192.168.0.1.I have another PC that runs Winodws Vista Ultimate. I am connecting the server to a wan port of a router. I disabled the DHCP on the router. The router has an ip of 192.168.0.2.I connected the Vista pc to lan port 1 on the router.the client can't get an ip from the server. Can someone help please? Thanks,

hye kamaran, alright first question why are you connecting your pc to wan port of router.please modify that , what you need to do is to have a) switch with any number of portsb) a dhcp server connected to that switch and configured appropriate subnetc) connect the vista client to same switch and make tcp/ip properties as dhcp enabledd) reboot the client / perform ipconfig /renew which the client shoudl get the ipsainath Windows Driver Development

Thank you for replying to my post. The reason why I am using a router not a switch is that the router can act as a switch if you disable DHCP on it. The LAN ipof the router "now like a switch" does not conflict with the Windows Server IP address. Thewindows server ip address is: 192.168.0.1and theLAN ip of the router is: 192.168.0.2. both with default subnet mask.I have disabled DHCP on the router and setupDHCP on my windows 2k3S.Whether I connect the the server pc to the WAN or any LAN port on the router, I still can't get an ip from Vista Client PC. Thanks,

hi there,in your case, i would suggest to have a netmon trace from the client and the server in this netmon trace you need to check for DORA process.if DORA process is failing then we need to check if you provide static ip address , are you able to ping from vista client ?sainath Windows Driver Development
