Vista Ultimate - Peer to peer connection issues
Ihave two questions or problems.I am setting up apeer to peer network with 2Windows Vista Ultimate machines hooked up to each other. One of them is beingused like a server to back up my files. The other is being used by my wifefor other things. On the second Ultimate machine I am setting my "My documents" folder to be redirected to a share on the first Ultimate machine. I am doing the same thing with the music folders as well. The shared folders are now having a hard time seeing the folders off and on. I will sometimes during the day have to restart the first machine and then the second machine to even see the folders again. The second issue is that with the folders shared under the profile, it now takes about 30-40 minutes to log off of the user. A few things. Both computers are setup on the same workgroup. Both computers have the same user names and corresponding passwords on them.Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

Hi, This behavior may be related to your hardware. Please read the following article. Using Crossover Cables in Home or Peer-to-Peer Networks http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278870/en-us During this situation, our assistance is limited, and we cannot guarantee that the issue will be resolved. I strongly suggest that you add a network device such as a network switch or a router to enable the communication between the two computers. Let's attempt something and see if it helps. I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall on both computers. Then check the performance. If the issue persists, try to upgrade the network adapter driver on both computers. You may boot in Clean Boot Mode to narrow down if the issue is caused by any third party programs. Clean boot ================= Lets disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. For more information about this step, please refer to the following KB article: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com//kb/929135 If the above suggestions does not help, purchasing a switch or router will be a final solution.
