Vista Safe mode will not start
Vista SP2 Pressing F8 on start up goes to the boot options page, but selecting any Safe mode option causes the computer to reboot and therefore cannot be booted into safe mode. Only the Start Windows normally option allows a boot.

Hi, Please go to Start Menu, Run, and type in "msconfig" and enter. In the boot tab, check the box before Safe Mode, Check if you can boot into Safe mode this way. Thanks, This helped immensly. Still something not quite right though. Aftyer selecting minimal safe mode in msconfig, I rebooted, the computer went through normal startup, but then rebooted. So I pressed F8 and tried Safe mode again. but still continued to reboot itself. I then pressed F8 again and this time selected 'Repair computer',and did a mem check., then restarted but Still the computer was rebooting on evetry statup attempt, so I went to F8 again and selected 'last known good config.' It then finally started up in Safe mode. However I could not get back to normal mode without deselecting 'Minimal Safe mode' in msconfig, and on startup pressing F8 and selecting last known good config'. It is now running in normal mode. It will not change between safe and normal without going through this process. I am concerned that it has some virus or such as because I have heard of a worm that prevents safe mode and so prevents it removal.John M D
