Vista SP1 Network Slowdown w/ Dell D820 Laptops
I've noticed an issue recently with any Vista 32 bit clients that install Vista SP1, which causes their network speed to CIFS shares across the networkto diminish significantly. Right now it seems to only be with Vista machines with SP1 installed (broadcom NICs with the latest dell driver/software installed)We uninstalled SP1 on one of the machines and the problem went away. We're using some dos based applications that run file copy processesthat used to take 5 minutes which are taking an hour or more. The NIC looks ok, the switch doesn't show any errors, I've updated the NIC drivers, and scanned through the list of SP1 updates, but nothing is sticking out to me as potentially being the cause. We also had one of this same model run some various windows patches (user was catching up with 50+ updates and now they can't run the card at 'auto negotiating', so now they're the one system in the company to have to be pinned to 100/Full..Just seems odd to run into all of these issues...anyone have any ideas to help isolate this other than running through the hundreds of hotfixes individually in Vista SP1?Pete

Hi Pete, Firstly, may I know the following: 1. Are all the computers Windows Vista computers? Where do the shares locate? 2. If you installed some security software (anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, etc.) on the Windows Vista computer? If so, please let me know its detail information such as brand, edition, version, etc. I suspect this should be a compatibility issue. If there is some software conflicts with Windows Vista SP1, the function or performance of the system may be affected. Therefore, please check the software installed on the computer. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Tracked the problem down - it's a Mcafee 8.5 issue with clients running Vista SP1. If Mcafee is running a hotfix revision prior to 7, you'll be hosed as well... Hotfix 7 and beyond fix the issue. Once we put the hotfix in (no reboot required) the problem immediately went away.
