Vista SP1 Network Map and XP SP3 Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol
I have recently been trying to get my XP computers to show up on my Vista Network Mapbut I have SP3 installed and the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol isn't an option any more. I installed the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol on a SP2 machine and it worked but when I installed SP3 the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol isn't even available and the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol download only works on SP2. How do I get Vista's Network Map to see my XP SP3 machines now?

Manually.Unfortunately, KB922120 was supposed to be in SP3 (it's in the list of fixes), but people can't seem to actually find it in there. Also, the hotfix will only install on XP SP2, as you've learned. You can always install the update by hand, as outlined in this newsgroup thread and this KB article.HTH,

Finally after excruciating months for such a simple thing to be fixed Microsoft has released a official Fix which you the user have to go jump thrugh hoops, a fire pit, proove that your worthyand then get a secret email password protected and well very dramatic but unimpressing... I have tried both 'fixes' suggested here, but each time I get the message 'Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update'.Does this mean that Microsoft have actually released an update to SP3 that includes the fix?I have not got a Vista pc yet, but plan to get one very soon. I want to be sure that my three other xp machines will happily co-exist with it!Thanks, ErikTViking.

Erik, which "two fixes" have you tried? By my count, X3lectric posted two, and I posted one.The manual way does work (if done properly), even on an OS for which it was not quite meant (such as Server 2003, which I've also used it on.)[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Not very helpful if your link takes you to a private blog that you have to a username and password for and there is now way to register. I realize the post is 4 years old, maybe you could post how to get into your site
