Vista Remote Desktop
We have just installed Vista Business on one of our workstations. Our server is currently running Windows 2003 Small Business Server (with ISA 2004). I am having some issues with being able to Remote Desktop to the new Vista machine from my home computer. Our other workstations are XP Pro and have no problems accessing these machines from home. I currently establish a VPN connection to the server and then use the Remote Desktop connection from home to access any of the workstations at the office on the following subnet 192.168.2.x. From the office network I can RDP into the Vista machine just fine. This leads me to believe that the problem may be with SBS. Are there any settings on the SBS that need to be made so that the Vista machine can be accessed from my home computer? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bob, Thank you for the post. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you: 1. What is the exact wording of the error message when trying to RDP to the Windows Vista machine? 2. Did the logon dialog box appear for typing username and password when trying to RDP to the Windows Vista machine? In addition, please understand that you may need to submit this issue to our Windows Small Business Server Newsgroup for further troubleshooting if it cannot be identified/resolved on the Windows Vista side. For your reference, Ive included the link of Windows Small Business Server 2003 Newsgroup: Discussions in Windows Small Business Server 2003 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. "The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connectinig later, If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator." The connection times out before getting the logon box. I also noticed that I could ping the other xp clients from my home connection but not the Vista workstation. However, if I remote desktop to one of the XP machines at work and try pinging the vista machine it works fine as well as rdp. The fiewall settings on the vista machine seem to be ok and enabled for remote desktop connection. I did notice that IP Routing is not enabled on the Vista machine but is enabled on the XP machine as indicated below. Can IP routing be enabled on the vista machine and if so, how? Hi Bob, Thank you for your response. To enable IP Routing, please perform the following steps: =============================== 1. Open registry editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters. 2. Change the value of the entry IpEnableRouter to 1. 3. Restart the computer. Note: Please backup the registry key before modifying the value. From the error message you provided, I infer that the cause of this issue should be: Certain firewall/filter driver blocks the connection. Additional configuration is required on the Small Business Server. Please temporarily stop the service Base Filtering Engine on the Windows Vista machine. After that, try to RDP to the Windows Vista machine from the home computer and check the result. Note: If the issue persists after stopping the Base Filtering Engine service, please restart the following services orderly: Base Filtering Engine IPSec Policy Agent Windows Firewall IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Windows Small Business Server 2003 Newsgroup to narrow down the issue. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Joson, will this work for windows 7 as well. I am having the problem with the yellow triangle on my Isatap adaptor and Isatap adaptor 2 as well as toredo tunnelling pseudo interface. I reinstalled win 7 originally to try and fix it but it still came up. Then after going through my firewall settings and internet connection settings I still have problem. I cannot seem to remote access the server at work from my laptop at home but no one else is having the problem. I get the same messages as Bob was getting. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.!! I tried to go through the microsoft call line and when I entered the product key it keeps saying it doesn't recognize it. I don't know if that is because I reinstalled OS and used same number or not. cheers CherrZ:) hope you can help<:)
