Vista RC1 connects to some web sites
I installed RC! (build 5600) and can only connect to some web sites. I can connect to www.yahoo.com but cannot connect to www.google.com. I can connect to www.microsoft.com, but I cannot connect to msdn.microsoft.com. Very wierd. I have a linksys router, and I can access its web interface and I can map drive on my home network. However, I can't browse for network services. I map drives by manually keying the server/resource name. I can ping google, but not browse to it. Some links work and some don't on sites I can get to. I don't think it is a hardware problem as this machine was running Beta 2 (5427) for over a month with no trouble. I had build 5536 on for a couple of days testing application compatibility issues from beta 2 and it experienced the same problem, but I didn't have tome to look into it before RC1 came along. When I dual boot back to XP (two physical hard drives, set boot in BIOS). everything works fine. I am concerned I see three network router "devices" in the network configuration. 1 is my main linksys wireless router, another is a second router I have on the network with its DHCP disabled (allows wireless connection from further areas). But the third router is a Microsoft router and I think this is a software thing. It has an IP address that was assigned my main router. Very weird. Any ideas?

Same problem here. Allthough exact opposite. I can get togoole fine, yahoo will not load completely. I'm using a laptop with a buffalo wireless card. There are no traceable reasons to this just yet. I wonder if IP6 is th rott of the problem?

I have the same problems, although for me it seams to be https sites.Steam or World Of Warcraft seam to have problems too/EditOk Microsoft, heres your problem:I personally cannot go to "www.gmail.com" or "addons.mozilla.org", there may be more but those are tried and tested. Both of these redirect to a Secure HTTP site, and it only affects my onboad Yukon Gigabit Network card, my other NVidia works fine.

I decided to confirm something. I reinstalledVistaJuly CTP (build 5472) and sure enough internet access is perfect... and fast too. I don't know what is different about RC1 (build 5600) or the August CTP (build 5536), but neither works with full Internet access for me. I was told to try turning off phishing and to try running it as the administrator. I do not know yet how you can run as the one true administrator, but I will research and try that. I may just try running IE7 with the run as administrator option. I'll post the results of testing these items when I have time to reload RC1 and do the testing. Hopefully tonight. In the mean time I am still hoping for an answer. Any ideas anyone????

This is a definate problem with NIC. Are you running a Marvell adaptor? If you are these symptoms explain it! Download the latest vista driver for your network adaptor. Should fix it instantly!

Many thanks. I'm using a Marvell Yukon Gigabit 10/100/1000 T-Base on board an Asus K8v SE Deluxe motherboard. I did manage to locate the latest driver (I don't think it was on the Asus site though) and it did, indeed, cure the problem.Just got to get Live Messenger working now - that refuses to Sign in with an error 81000306 although the TCP and HTTP tests in Connection->Advanced succeed and Signing in Online is fine. Thanks again,John.

John, Where did you find the Marvell drivers. My motherboard is a ASUS K8V-X with a Marvell ethernet. I am fresh out of ethernet cards to install one, so the drivers would be a great help. Thanks, Scott

Some problem here.Asus A8V-Deluxe, Athlon 3500 with Marvell NIC. Windows Vista RC1 x64 build 5600.I run as Administrator, turned off Windows Firewall and antivirus and Windows Defender completely. Turned off IE7 phising protection also.I can enter www.nvidia.com but not to www.google.com neither www.microsoft.com. Windows Update cant connect ( because uses microsoft.com ).I CAN ping and nslookup SUCCESSFULLY www.google.com and www.microsoft.com, but the web doesn't load.I CAN share files with no problem between different computers and even between Windows and Samba(linux).I CANNOT activate Windows Vista ( because uses microsoft.com ) because this bug doesn't let me access www.microsoft.comI CANNOT send Microsoft a bug because the Bug report program access to microsoft.com which is not operative with this bug.Tryed with IE7 and also Firefox and Opera. Same result. Problem is the WinInet.dll or the Marvell network drivers. WindowsXP works perfectly of course. The Beta2 worked for me... no idea what you did but now is BROKEN.I tryed to download the latest Marvell driver from www.marvell.com, but Vista tells me is an old driver and network DOES NOT work using them ( latest drivers are marked July 2006, so pre-RC1 drivers cannot work indeed ). Can't see a Windows Vista x64 driver for the Marvell in the Asus web...Please Microsoft and Marvell fix this ASAP ASAP ASAPMeanwhile you can try this:Go to Start -- Run and type "devmgmt.msc" without quotes.Expand Network AdaptersRight Click the Marvell device and go to properties.Click on the advanced tab.Select IPv4 Checksum Offload and set the Value to Disabled.Hit ok and enjoy!bubu, C++ Programmer

BURB, go to Yukon's website and enter the DRIVERS section. Look for version 9.10.2.2 This is ther Vista driver for the Yukon miniport. Hope this helps.
September 15th, 2006 10:52pm

I tried the "Select IPv4 Checksum Offload and set the Value to Disabled" once before and it did not work. With teh fresh load of RC1 I did this morning I will try it again... as well as getting drivers from Yukon's web site. I'll post my results when I have them this weekend.

"Where did you find the Marvell drivers"I think it was here:http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverSearchResults.do?currentPage=3I cured my Live Messenger sign-in problem by rolling back the Netgear DG834v2 firmware from 3.01.29 to 3.01.25. Just the snap, crackle and pop sound from the on-board sound to tackle now and I can use Vista full time :)John.

I have the same problem: some URL can be reachead, some ather not. I don't have a Marwell adapter but a more common Intel Pro Wireless. Because I exerinced the same with two other PC XP based in my home network, I presume that the problem is in the ISP. On the XP machines I fixed taht problem using a small utility called TCP Optimizer, that changed some Registry value in the TCP IP services. Unfortunately TCP Optimizer doesn't work on Vista. I tried to change manually the Registry values without effect and actually I stille have to solve my problem. I hope this is usefull. If you have any other idea... please post it! Paolo

Well, I can't believe this... I am running the 64 bit version of Vista RC1 and Marvell does not have 64 Bit drivers in that version. I am going to download RC1 x86 and install that. I have the 32-bit drivers from Marvell so hopefully all we be working in a few hours.

I got Vista RC1 (build 5600) working with the Internet. As you recall (from below) I was able to connect to some sites but not others. And the behavior was completely repeatable. The solution was a setting in the configuration of the network adapter (built on to my ASUS motherboard). Here is how I fixed it (all credit goes to Rob Sydor): Click on Start orbRight-click on ComputerClick on ManageClick ContinueSelect Device Manager on the leftExpand Network adapters on the rightRight-click the network adapterClick on PropertiesClick on AdvancedSelect TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4) on the leftSet value to DisabledClick OK, and clock the Device Manager All was working, without even rebooting. The screen flickered a couple of time as it processed this information and when I ran IE it went immediately to Microsoft Live. All this was with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista RC1. I did not need new drivers. I am going to try installing the 32-bit version of Vista RC1. I am curious to see the performance difference, though it will be hard to tell without some kind of benchmark between the two since I can't have both running at the same time.

That's interesting, thanks.I'm tempted to roll back to the original Asus-supplied driver to try it on my system. I've only joined the program at the RC1 stage so can't comment on the Betas but something is obviously different between the XP and Vista RC1 implementations. If the TCP Checksum Offload is a universal fix, maybe the default would be better selected. -- I wonder what the implications of that particular setting are?John.
September 17th, 2006 11:04am

To Pablicito:If it's common to XP machines as well and a TCP Optimizer "cures" it, I would suspect it's more to do with an uncommon 'MTU' packet size used by your ISP rather than a problem specific to Vista.John.

Vista rc1 32-bit versionOk, I rolled back the driver to the one that Vista installed and the problem returned. Pleased to report that the above tweak has fixed it. I did notice that selecting Tx Enabled also works so it seems that the 'culprit' is having Rx Enabled (or Both Enabled).John.

God bless you, "theburb"! Oh my God, I thought I've tried everything. Thank you ! For those who need your sollution: Attention! You must modiffy: TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4)! Got it? Again: TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4)! And you, Marvell, wake up guys! The World is changing and you can lose this! Thank you again "theburb" it's working fine now!

Installing the Marvell 9.10.2.2 drivers for the Network Adapter was also successful in solving the problem, however, this was only an option for the 32-bt version of Vista RC1. I was able to get both the 32 & 64 bit version to work with the TCP Checksum solution mentioned above. Thanks to all for the help. Now I will spend some time seeing which performs bet, 32 or 64 bit.

Since we are able to ping the websites, may be related with corrupted DNS files? try to rename hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder and check the issue?

Well I tried all of this on my Asus A8N motherboard but no joy :C I Swapped back to the Nvidia network port but still no dice. I Just got it working by setting the speed & Duplex to 10 full duplex on the nvidia card. Something changed in auto negotiation? Like every one else my machine was fine when using Beta2 and my tablet installed and ran RC1 with no issues at all.

Asus P5NSLI M/B with Yukon - RC1 load, same problems as above. Works fine with XPpro. The IPv4 was disabled on install, so that wasn't it.Downloading the 9.10.2.2 beta driver from http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do;jsessionid=FJMP6QJyyQWLk2NwLRNtwTQ0wJNBXLvpvG85dFwkhFGkzCPyvyJX!-194116089worked for me.

Thanks Mario, Your solution work with my ASUS P5WDH with 2 Marvell NICs for vista RC1 both 32and 64 bits version!!! No need to update drivers! How do you find this tips?
September 22nd, 2006 11:32pm

It is frustrated. I cannot get the Yukon NIC to work with either RC1 (5600) or the latest build, what is it - build 5733? I have tried it with both checksums on and off, and both with and without the Marvell Beta Vista driver. I find it odd that people here report that it works. I am testing this on a totally fresh install of Vista without any other modifications. To be clear - the problem is a NIC slowdown, and also random access - some sites work, some do not at all, all sites are slow, and over time the performance gets worse. Help!
