Vista RC1 can not join domain
Ok, heres the issue. I'm trying to join my domain at work but I'm getting the error: Login Failure: Unknow user name or bad password I know the user name and password are correct. I use it all the time. I guess the real question is does the domain have to be Active Directory? Don't laugh but we still are using an old NT40 box PDC for a flat domain. We are in the process of going to AD now. Can Vista join this type of domain or does it have to be an Active Directory Domain? Thanks for the help.

2 things 1) Do you configure Vista to use a wins server or a lmhost file? 2) try this "Run as administrator" secpol.msc Under Local Policies > Security Options Change the value of "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level"from "NTVLM2 responses only" to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session securityif negotiated"

I completed installing Vista RC2 at work and we still use a NT 4 Domain as our PDC"We plan on upgrading to AD in the next year" and I tried the solution outlined above for the Vista RC1 work around but this does not work in RC2 after completing the steps I still get the same error message Login Failure: Unknow user name or bad password Do I need to do somthing different in RC2 or possibly an addtional step? Please let me know I really want to start having my staff begin testing Vista RC2 in our current enviorment. Thanks

This fix worked for me on RC1. We're using a Samba domain.
