Vista Problem
For the past four weeks I have had a problem with Vista not being able to start up after I shut down the computer. The system goes into startup repair for a while and then says it can't fix the problem and goes into recovery mode and goes back to the last recovery point. When it does this it comes back and reports a "patch is preventing windows from starting" also in the report the first Item mentions rootkit, then the computer comes up with my Norton 360 turned off and I have lost any updates since the last recovery. I can go out to Symantec and recover from the problem by reloading the updates, but when I try to scan for errors N360 comes back with tracking cookies but nothing else. We downloaded Malware bytes and it finds no problem. If I "hibernate" Vista it restarts OK, but if I download windows updates and try to restart I get the same result as above. Also I have noticed that Vista comes out of hibernation early in the morning, not sure why but it goes back again no problem, may not mean anything.
