Vista PPTP Wireless Issue
I have installed Windows Vista Business edition on a laptop and need to set up a PPTP connection to my work network from my home based ADSL. Using a network cable i can connect ok with no issues, but when i try and connect using my wireless network the connection times out. The wireless connection itself is fine as i can browse the internet no problem. Laptop is a dell D620 and the wireless router a Linksys WAG54Gs Any ideas?

I have a very similar issue as well when I'm connected wirelessly to a DLink WBR-1310.If I use a wired connection - and without changing any PPTP settings - can connect fine.On the wireless connection - the PPTP connection status gets all the way through authentication and registering... However - I notice that the default gateway (as displayed by running ipconfig in the dos prompt) never gets assigned and remains at 0.0.0.0 and after about 1 minute - the connection times out.I use an SMC wireless access point from home and again connecting using the same PPTP connection without any changes connects fine.

Interesting, I also have a dell D620 and am seeing similar issues. I ean a network trace using ethereal and the laptop does a DNS lookup and goes no further. I haven't tried a wired connection but will do so today. I also have XP running on a vmware machine on the lappy and that also reports an error. It claims that the "modem or connecting device" is incorrectlyconfigured. I have the default microsoft driver for the Intel wireless card installed in the lappy. Are you the same or have you got the Dell driver?

Well that was a red herring, the intel driver did nothing. In fact my PPTP session will not work at all natively, but works on the ethernet connection using VMWare XP.This must be a bug, as locally it send absolutely nothing out on to the network, other than the DNS request, which resolves fine.

You might most probably be hitting issue KB#930163. Please download the fix and see if it helps thanks Aanand
