Hi, Please try the following suggestions to troubleshoot this issue: 1. Check if you can ping the computer with the command “ping computer name” or “ping IP Address”. 2. Please check if you can access the share folder with “\\computer name\folder” or “\\IP Address\ folder”. 3. Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works. 4. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see if the issue persists. If not, please also boot to Clean Boot environment to determine the possible cause. 4. If you have enabled simple file sharing on Windows XP computer, please check if Guest account has also been enabled; you can also disable the simple file sharing and reconfigure the sharing on the Windows XP computer with the following Knowledge Base: How to disable simple file sharing and how to set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP 5. Disable “Password protected sharing” in Vista. If the issue persists, please let me know if there is any error received. Hi Sabrina, Many thanks for helping. [1. Check if you can ping the computer with the command “ping computer name” or “ping IP Address”.] Done and no problem. [2. Please check if you can access the share folder with “\\computer name\folder” or “\\IP Address\ folder”. ] Done and no problem. [3. Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works.] All disabled. [4. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see if the issue persists. If not, please also boot to Clean Boot environment to determine the possible cause.] Which one? Vista, XP or Both? Which one to boot first? [4a. If you have enabled simple file sharing on Windows XP computer, please check if Guest account has also been enabled; you can also disable the simple file sharing and reconfigure the sharing on the Windows XP computer with the following Knowledge Base: How to disable simple file sharing and how to set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP] According to your link, XP Home cannot disable simple file sharing. Guest is enabled. [5. Disable “Password protected sharing” in Vista.] Vista's Password protected sharing was set to off. [If the issue persists, please let me know if there is any error received.] After doing 1,2,3,4a and 5; the situation was the same as before: My Vista PC cannot see its workgroup nor my XP PC (and it's shared folders) in my home network. That is: In VISTA: Network > Nothing (except MS Publication Service Device Host). No error message was received. Any idea? Thanks. Regards, Avocado

Hi Avocado, First, please boot both computers in safe mode with network and Clean Boot environment to check this issue. If the issue persists in the above environments, please go to check if the following hotfix is installed correctly: Network Map in Windows Vista does not display computers that are running Windows XP Please update the chipset (motherboard) and bios to test. Open a command prompt window on the Vista machine, type net use * \\computername\sharename, and then type the appropriate username and password when prompted. This will map the last available drive letter to the specified share. Hi - I am having the same issue, with no luck fixing it, same symptoms as Avocado If you have XP SP3 installed, applying the HOTFIX you suggest in the link provided is redundant - it's already done in SP3. Any other suggestions? Gary
