Vista Networking issues
Hello, I have a private wireless network in which I am trying to access my Vista based laptop from my Vista based desktop. both computers are up todate with updates, have all firewall restrictions turned off and when I try to connect, I get a pop-up with username and password requirement. I have only 1 user account setup on each computer. I have a third desktop that is running XP that I can access from both the primary desktop and the laptop, I just can't access the Vista based desktop from the laptop and vice versa. I amhaving to move information through the thirddesktopto get it from my primary desktop to my laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks, Paul

On my wireless router I had to Bridge the wireless and wired subnets in order to have all machines on the same subnet. Not sure if that is the problem as the XP machine can talk to both Vista machines........ Can they ping each other?

Hello Paul, In Network and Sharing Center in Control Panel, what are your options set to?Password protected sharing is turned on by default in Windows Vista. If its turned on, you'll need to assign a user account a password if it does not in order to work properly over the network. You'll need to add individual user accounts that matches to the rest of the machines. If you haven't already, please review this TechNet article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com
