Vista Networking issue with accessing HDD on laptop vista home premium
So, i have 3 computers all linked to a network through a linksys modem/router all wired together. One desktop is xp. One desktop if vista home premium. One laptop is vista home premium. Now, laptop can see everything, access everything (full hdd access on both desktops, each have 2 hdd each) The desktop vista can access all of xp desktop, can access shared folder on laptop but not the FULL hdd on the laptop. The sharing etc is all setup the same between the two vista pc's. When trying to access the hdd on the laptop it gives me the error of it not being accessible etc error code 0x80070005 (i think, i'm at work at the moment) When going into the network places on the laptop it can access it's own hdd fine. The xp pc can see the laptop but can only access the shared part, not the full hdd but can again see it and comes up with an error when trying to access but it cannot even see the vista desktop that sits right next to it (though this doesn't really bother me as i hardly need the xp computer for networking, just internet) Internet works fine over all computers. Both vista computers were running fine a while back but we were seperated for a bit. They have both now been restored from the factory image (d:) and i think service pack 1 has been installed. Possibly the only thing i haven't tried yet is sutting up the same user account on each computer but it worked fine previously without that and more to the point why would one be able to access the other but not vice versa? Thanks in advance,bEn

Hi Ben, Thank you for posting. May I know if the hdd you mentioned is the drive partitions on the computers (such as drive C, drive D,)? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. If you want to share the drive partition on the laptop, you may need to configure its sharing properties referring to the following document: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx If you have already enable the sharing, you can try to disable the share and reconfigure it to see how it works. 2. Check both Sharing and Security settings on the sharing Properties on the laptop, and make sure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to Everyone. If the object Everyone doesnt exist, please add it manually. If the issue persists, please also help capture a screenshot on the error message you received. Capture a screenshot ============= 1) When the error appears, press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click Desktop on the left pane and then click "Save". Please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and share its URL with me. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
