Vista Networking Weirdness - Can Anyone Help?
I need to assign my laptop (IBM T60 running Vista Business) a static IP address, so I went to the Networing and Sharing Center. Once I got to the list of my connections, I right-clicked on my LAN connection (hard wired) and selected Properties. In the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialog, I am getting some interesting things.- "Connect Using" is BLANK...there is nothing here...but when I click the Configure button, it appears that everything is OK...and using my Intel PRO 10/100 PL Network Connection- "This connection uses the following items" contains "Client for Microsoft Networks" and that is itWhen I click the install button and then select Protocol, to install TCP/IP, I get the following error: Could not add the requested feature. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.OTHER INFORMATION:- All of my connections are working fine...I can connect to networked resources online and I can connect to the internet- All of my connections are exhibiting the same behavior- In the Network and Sharing Center, it tells me that my connection is "Local Only"So, I have a couple of questions?1. How do I fix the problem?2. Is this common? How is this possible, that everything would work perfectly, yet my settings would lead me to believe that I don't even have the right stuff installed?
