Vista Networking Issues
I work in a small home business office and I'm the IT here. The issue I'm having is with file sharing. Basically we have a primary computer that hosts Peachtree files, and we need to have these files shared so that the other computers with peachtree can open them. We had this working before but recently switched to a WRT54G2 wireless router and now there is a problem. I can't be sure if the problem stems from this router itself or from the network settings (which had to be reconfigured after switching routers anyway). We have 3 desktops and 1 laptop to work with and each is running Windows Vista. Two of the desktops are wired and one is wireless, and of course the laptop works wireless as well. The file host computer is one of the wired desktops. What's particularly aggrevating about this issue is that the networking works from ALL of the computers except for this file host computer. They can each share and see shared files just the way they should, but they cannot see the shared files from that one pc. (though it can see and access files from the others) Basically when I try to open that computers shared files from any of the others it gives me the "Windows cannot access \\server" message. It also does the same thing if i manually type in the server. I have each computer set the exact same way with the same workgroup name, one the same network, with the same networking options checks (which in this case are Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public Folder Sharing, and Printer Sharing), windows firewall on but with networking exceptions, no antivirus software. Files shared are set for Everyone with full access under advanced sharing AND security tab. Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Please first ping the computer with the following command. ping [IP address of the host] Then ping the computer with the following format. ping [computer name of the host] Please let me know the result. If we cannot ping the host with IP address, I suggest that you check the physical connectivity, also upgrade the network adapter driver for the host computer. However, if you could ping the computer well, I suggest that you follow the steps below to allow anonymous access on the host computer. Pleae launch "Regedit" in Start Search box, navigate to the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA Making "RestrictAnonymous" and ,"Restrict anonymous sam" values as 0. Is the issue resolved? If it still occurs, please boot the host computer in Safe Mode with Networking and let me know if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. 1. Reboot the computer. 2. When the Starting Windows screen shows, press F8. 3. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter. 4. Log on as Administrator. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, please back to Normal Mode and check the background programs, including Windows Firewall. Otherwise, if it persists in Safe Mode, please let me know if you have enabled Guest account, or you are using same user name\password on each computers to access network resources. Hope it helps.
