Vista Large File Copy/Heavy Network Utilization Crash
Hello all.I am trying to copy a large amount of data from a laptop to a workstation. The total amount of data is ~100GB. There are some large files in the 3-5GB range and thousands of smaller files. Both operating systems are Vista Business SP2 32-bit. Both machines are DELL, with the latest driver(s) available installed. The network connection is 100Mbps, half duplex. The workstation is "pulling" the files from the laptop using a share on the laptop. I've tried Explorer and a synchronization application called BeyondCompare. At some point during the copy, usually around 9GB, the laptop will stop completely; no blue screen, no event log entries, keyboard and touchpad unresponsive, display frozen. The only way to recover is to pull the battery.autotuning is disabled.Google returns a number of hits regarding this, most dealing with a hotfix, or the autotuning feature. Is anyone aware of a new(er) remedy to this problem or is it just something I have to live with? Thanks all.

Try it disable the "Remote Differential Compression" in "Programs and Features".

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it out and it looked promising at first, but about half-way through a 5GB file, the laptop locked up tight.

In safe mode with networking, the same problem occurs?
