Vista Internet connection loss
I have a question like many, many people already had posted about a Vista computer losing the internet connection. My situation is slightly different than those other questions. I work for a school district which I have seen this problem happen many times over on a Vista computer. Obviously, we operate where the Vista computers are connected to a domain. This problem happens frequently where a Vista computer will automatically "drop" the internet access. When this problem occurs, down at the bottom right corner by the clock, the user will lose the little globe icon which is in front of the two monitor icons. At this point, you get "local only" access which the user still has access to the domain. Now, you will receive a RED X between the domain icon and internet globe. If you click on the RED X to fix the problem, it never restores the connection. What is causing a Vista computer to automatically lose internet connection but still retain access to the domain? What is the long term fix to prevent the problem from returning?

Hi, Will the issue re-occur when connecting to internet from another internet access port? Open a command prompt window on one that works, and one that doesn't work. Issue the following command on both: ipconfig /all Compare the output on both. The only thing that should be different is the actual IP address. The DNS and Default Gateway IP's should be identical Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
