Vista Group Policy Editing on Server 2003 Domain
Hi, I have Vista x64 installed on my client machine which is part of a domain running at server 2003 functional level. I cannot figure out how to edit the domain group policy objectsfrom my client machine. On an XP machine I can do this by going to the ADUC console, right clicking on the domain and selecting "edit" from the advanced tab which opens the snap in which shows all the GPOs and allows them to be edited. This doesn't seem to be available from my Vista machine, which has the Server 2003 admin pak installed and SP1. What do I need to do in Vista to access this? Chris.

Hi Chris, If you are using Windows Vista SP1, please download and install the RSAT on the Windows Vista machine. RSAT is an updated version of what is called ADMINPAK.MSI and can be used by IT Pros to manage computers running Windows Server 2008. Because many of these tools also work for managing computers running Windows Server 2003, it is "the next version" of ADMINPAK.MSI. For more detailed information, please check the following link: Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) Now Available for Windows Vista SP1 http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2008/03/25/remote-server-administration-tools-rsat-now-available-for-windows-vista-sp1.aspx If you are using Windows Vista without SP1, GPMC (GPMC.msc) is built into the system and you can use it to manage Group Policy in windows environment. Hope the information is helpful.

Hi Joson, When I try to install the x64 version of RSAT from the link above, I get an error message that it doesn't apply to my system. Chris.
