Vista DEP
I'm using Windows Vista Business SP1. One thing that has been bugging me about the software is DEP. I have a program that worked on my last Vista computer perfectly finebut doesn't work on this machine. The big differencefrim the two computersis the new processor supports hardware-based DEP. I tried installing the software and I get this error: Unhandled exception has occurred in your application..... Unable to get the window handle for the 'AxEsiCom' control. Windowless ActiveX controls are not supported. Problem: If I turn off DEP most of my other programs do not work. They hang at opening, printing, or simply opening a message. Some of the programs that hang are: Adobe, Outlook, Kronos, Word and many others. I turnedDEP back on (Optin option) and now the computer boots up at normal speed but if I login to quickly the programs don't work as if DEP is still off. I have to wait approximately 10 minutes to login otherwise these programs all hang. If I wait to login the computer is very stable and works well. Any thoughts Thanks Nick

Hi Nick, if the issue only occurs on several programs when DEP is turned on, I suggest you add the program to DEP except list: 1. Click Start, type sysdm.cpl and press Enter. 2. Click Settings under Advanced tab, performance option. 3. Under Data Execution Prevention, choose Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. 4. You can add the programs you want to the list and check the result.
