Vista Bussiness Edition - Hang UP before login screen
My network is a little big then this, but to explain my problem I will use just 3 machines: Machine 1: A domain controller running Windows 2003 R2 x32 Machine 2: A server for sharing folder running Windows 2003 R2 x32 Machine 3: A HP Desktop DC7700 with pre-installed OEM Vista Bussiness 32bits What I need? I need that when the users login in the domain, the machine run a login script that is write in as .vbs and this scripts set some environment network, and also map some network drivers as letter like F: and G: My first problem: When the user logs in the script sometimes doesn't run and when it runs it do it asyncrhonous. To solve this I used the GPEDIT.MSC and set up "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" and "Run logon scritps synchronouly" , and this run logon before bring the screen to users. This solution solve the problem with all XP machines that I have (around 500 in 30 sites) My second problem: I used the same with Windows Vista bussiness OEM version pre-installed at HP DC7700, but here what happens in around 40% of times, is that when I turn the machine on, the screen comes up with please wait and the login screen don't comes on. I already leave more than 1 hours and nothing happens. If I push the network cable and turn the machine on it works fine. Seems like when the cable is plugged, the windows detect that and wait until the machine talks to the domain controllers, before bring the logon screen, but for some reason the IP traffic fails and windows keeps waiting "ad eternum" Does anybody have any suggestion?

Hi EASF-BR, Thank you for the post. Please reproduce the issue and collect the following information on the Windows Vista machine for further research: System event log. Application event log. Group Policy event log (Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Group Policy). After that, please upload the .evtx files to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=b246703f-2f55-406a-a2d3-cdfc0fc0850c Password: g{Z3xs*OKsT Note: Please post a quick note in the current thread to inform me after uploading the information. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Joson, I had uploaded the files.
January 31st, 2008 7:12pm

Hi EASF-BR, Thank you for the information. I have checked the files and would like to share my findings with you: 1. Event log service was started at 6:20:32 PM ====================== Log Name: System Source: EventLog Date: 1/31/2008 6:20:32 PM Event ID: 6005 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: BRB73002CX.cutrale.int Description: The Event log service was started. --> Generally, this eventindicates the system has started. 2. Computer policy was completely applied around 6:30:15 PM and user policy began to be applied around 6:30:21 PM. ======================= Information 1/31/2008 6:30:15 PM Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy 8000 None Completed computer boot policy processing for CUTRALEINT\BRB73002CX$ in 7 seconds. Information 1/31/2008 6:30:21 PM Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy 4001 None "Starting user logon Policy processing for CUTRALEINT\ghsilva. Activity id: {0A1D41D2-0FF0-4FB5-AF7C-12BB09094A1B}" The above information indicates that the logon screen appeared 10 minutes after the Event log service had started. Therefore, I would like to confirm if you waited 10 minutes this time. If not, please reboot the Windows Vista machine to reproduce the issue and mark down the time when computer starts, when the Please wait screen appears and when the Logon screen displays. And then, please upload the event log to me again. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Joson, thanks for your reply. This doesn't happens all times when I turn the computer on. So I will take notes all times when the computers is turn on, and when this happens again I will upload the events, and update this.

Hi Joson, I'm back. I upload some more file for the events in this morning. These files are from another machine using Vista, but with the same problem. Following the times: 7:26 -> I turn the computer on 7:26 -> Computer prompt for password 7:26 -> It accept and show "Welcome" and remains on Welcome 7:30 -> I unpluged the power cable. Now some strange, at least for me: If you look at SYS, AT 7:33 it says: " The previous system shutdown at 07:26:21 on 13/02/2008 was unexpected", but I just unpluged the power cable at 7:33

Hi EASF-BR, I have checked the event log. Allow me to explain the issue that the event log indicates the system shut down at 07:26:21 rather than 7:33 can occur if the system already stopped responding at 07:26:21. Thus, I suspect that it is a system hang issue. In this case, please perform the following steps and check the result: 1. Log onto Safe Mode with networking. 2. Refer to the KB article 929135 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135) to perform a clean boot. In addition, please understand that debug and dump analysis may be required to troubleshoot system hang issue. However, debugging is out of our forums support boundary. A support call to our product team is needed for the debugging service. Id like to suggest contacting Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this issue can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request, please check the website listed below:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS Hope it helps. Hi, Joson But let me add some coments: If I change "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to "Not configured" and "Run logon scripts synchronously" to "Not configured" The machine don't hang up. It starts fine, but doesn't run the domain policies, and user policies.
