I have a WIN2003 Domain (2003 level) consisting of about 250+ computers. Most are WINXP and some WIN2000. I have 3 workstations that are VISTA ENTERPRISE. All of these machines are joined to the domain no problem. I just purchased a slew of Dell Optiplex 330s with VISTA BUSINESS, fresh install from the CD. My issue: when I join the computer with VISTA BUSINESS to the domain, it joins successfully, reboots, and then after about 2 - 5 minutes, it reboots again and disjoins itself from the domain. The event logs arent too helpful as there are a few items in there stating that the server service was unable to change the domain name from xxxx to xxxxx (xs being my domain name). EVENT ID: 2512. So extra troubleshooting brought me to install VISTA ENTERPRISE on the Optiplex 330 and join the domain, no issues there. It did not disjoin itself unlike BUSINESS. Is there something with VISTA BUSINESS that prevents it from staying joined to a domain? I have never seen this type of behavior. Thanks for any and all help! -Mike

Hi Mike, Does the Windows Vista machine join the domain by using an unattended file? If so, please refer to the following KB article for resolution: Unattended Setup does not Use Computer Name Specified by User during OOBE to Join the Domain http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944353 If the Windows Vista machine joined the domain manually, please confirm whether you also renamed the computer name when it joined domain. I suggest that you join the computer to domain after renaming it successfully (rename reboot join domain).

Joson,Sorry for the delay in returning to my thread. I was out of town for 2.5 weeks. No unattened file being used. Fresh copy of Vista Business on reformatted drive. The machine name is set during initial setup. I join the domain after Vista is fully installed. I have done much more testing since then too, seems now some machines are joining fine and some are not. Interesting to say the least. I am still running more tests. Fresh installs then join the domain, apply SP1 then join the domain, etc. I will post results. Thanks!!!Mike
