Vista Broadband PPOE problems on OEM computers
Hi, i'm Max, an italian technician. I'm referring to the threadstarted the31st ofDecemberby Mr. Daniel Kaukinen This issue has not been resolved, I'm having the sameproblem with one of my customer's computer. It's a Compaq Presario sr5127cl, wich came with vista32 home premium installed.Works fine if connected to a router, load only light pages (like google) if connected via ppoe.Contacted nvidia (eth drivers) and HP, still waiting for reply. Can't uninstall ip6 with nvidia drivers, disabled ip6 but still the same problem.Temporarely fixed rolling back from nvidia eth drivers 65.7.4.0 to microsoft eth drivers 6.2.0.126.If i leave "automatic updates" turned on (as required by the customer) and connect, the next startup drivers are updated to the "wrong" nvidia and still can't navigate.Another customer with another brand new Compaq desktop solved the problem this way: buyed an xp pro licence and ask me to "upgrade" to xp (wich is NOT supported by compaq,as allnew models, thank you, hp guys) Thanksto Mr Kaukinen and to xtechx for their useful informations, hope someone can help, Thank You, Massimo.

Hi Max, From your description, it seems a hardware driver issue. Before moving on, I would like to let you know that the drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft does not develop, manufacture and provide drivers for third party hardware devices. Only for customer's convenience, Microsoft offers these devices on its update web site. However, sometimes the manufacturers do not supply the updates to Microsoft in time. Therefore, the version of the driver update may be older than the one supplied directly by the manufacturer. If we install these updates, some issues may occur. In addition, I would like to explain that generally, we simply need to install the critical updates to keep the security and stability of the system. It is not necessary to apply the non critical updates and driver updates, since they provide some additional functions for your system. If we do not have special requirements, we do not need to install them. Also, please understand that the driver updates are released by third-party hardware manufacturers. Therefore, if you really need to update the drivers, please visit the computer manufacturers' sites to download the latest drivers. Meanwhile, we can perform the following steps in order to check the updates before downloading and installing them: 1. In Control Panel, click Windows Update. 2. In Windows Update, select the option: Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. Hope the information is helpful. Hi, Joson, thank you for your help Thisissue seems to be a combination of Vista and nvidia drivers, and I can't say if the problem is on the drivers or on the o.s. so i reported this at HP, Nvidia and Microsoft. I'm still waiting from an aswer from HP and nvidia. I had to find a solution (even temporary) and searched in control panel's options. The option "roll back to previous drivers" was enabled and iswitched from nvidiato some microsoft drivers (6.2.0.126) The computer was brand new an nothing was installed from the user so i guess that these drivers are the generic Vista drivers that came with the installer. For me the problem was solved, but the next day this user reported the same issue. Leaving automatic updates turned on, drivers are automatically updated to the latest available from nvidia. I know i can choose to install updates or not, but this user wants to leave on auto upd and this messes up the drivers. So i need a patch on vista or new drivers from nvidia. Tomorrow i'll try disabling "Priority and VLAN" as user mystiii told me in another post I will let you know as soon as possible, regards, Massimo
