I have not been able to download a microsoft update since April. I have received the updates, but they won't install. I have used the FIX IT, I have used every tool possible, the malicious sotware tools, every "FIX" IT that is available and STILL no installation of updates......I have gone into services to see that they are started...I have individually downloaded all of the updates that I can't get, saving them into a file and then when I click on each one (in date order) to install, again, the installer just works and works and works and works........................PLEASE, can you fix my computer.......Windows Defender updates are the only ones that manage to get installed...............the only ones..........I have service pack 2... I feel the installation program on my computer is corrupt and when I go online and it tells me that each time I go to windows update on the web that it automatically fixes or updates me and well, NOTHING............ Please help

Hi DebbyDee, From your description, I understand that you can manually download and install the update with no issue. However, the updates won't install automatically through Windows Update. If I misunderstand, please feel free to let me know. There might be conflict between the update and the programs on the computer or the Windows update temp folder was corrupt. Let us perform the following steps to help us troubleshoot this issue. 1.Rename the temporary folder of Windows Update. =========================================== One possible cause is that Windows Update's temporary folder contains corrupted files. This step will clean its "Download", which contains the Windows Update downloaded update installation files. After renaming this folder, all the files will be automatically recreated, except the Windows Update History data and downloaded updates' installation files. This will have no negative effect on your computer's performance. 1. Click "Start", type: "cmd" (without quotations) and press "Enter". In the command window, type "net stop WuAuServ" (without quotations) and press "Enter". 2. Click "Start", type: "%windir%" (without quotations) and press "Enter". 3. Double-click the SoftwareDistribution folder. 4. In the opened folder, rename the folder Download to Download.old. 5. Click "Start", type: "cmd" (without quotations) and press "Enter". In the command window, type "net start WuAuServ" (without quotations) and press "Enter". Note: After resolving this Windows Update issue, please feel free to delete the Sdold file. However, if you would like to keep the Windows Update History data, please copy the DataStore.edb file under C:\Windows\Sdold\DataStore, and paste it back into the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore. Step 2: Prepare a Clean Boot to install the update =============================== Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click "Start", and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later. Please run Windows update to check the result.
