I have tried several LAN drivers, including the version that reliably worked as expected with the Beta2 Vista CPP version (Uli 5.1.2600.350, 3/22/05). Present Uli driver is 5.1.2600.383, 6/21/06. A brief Google search shows there are a number of other Asrock 939 owners with this same issue. I can usually force a connection by disabling then re-enabling the local-area-connection several times, and/or using the network connection 'diagnose and repair feature'. I have tried reconfiguring various (ULi PCI Fast Ethernet Controller) adapter card options including disabling ipv6, and manually setting IP address etc. No joy. When I boot to XP x64 (dual boot is set up on same PC) there is no problem - reinstalling Vista Beta2 or 5308 works fine also. The WAN connection attempt is through an Actiontec GT704WG Gateway. To troubleshoot I installed an Ethernet packet sniffer to view the traffic present during the problem. The netbios-ns service is sending UDP packets from port 137. In looking at the UDP/IP packets outbound from my PC , I see that the IP checksum field is always 0000 when operating under Vista 5600. The checksum fields are correct under XP x64 with the same h/w and LAN driver where connectivity is as good. Is there a checksum offload expectation by Vista that is not correctly agreed on with the Uli LAN driver?

What a wonderful solution.. :)I will certainely do the same as I have the same network adapter.. I think the solution would be for uli to update their drivers..But microsoft could sure have tested their work..

FYI,i emailed nvidia about this a while back. At first they said it was microsofts problem. But after speaking with them for a while they apparently grabbed the asrock939 dual and did some testing and came up with an updated driver. They emailed it to me last night. After installing the driver i completely shut down the pc and powered it off. Then booted back up. There was still a delay for the network to come up but this time it was only a delay of 3-4 seconds. And this morning there was no delay at all (maybe the first boot was a result of some final driver installation process). I'm going to reboot it a few more times later today when i get home but so far it seems like this updated driver resolves the issue. This is under vista ultimate RTM x86. Hopefully nvidia will post the driver they sent me on their site soon.

On OCWForums there have been several threads on this issue for the last 6 months. No one has come up with a good answer other than a german program called CFOSpeed (didnt work for me) and a peculiar workaround. If you go into standby and then recover, network connections function properly. A working driver is the holy grail though... Any chase you might be able to share that driver or post it somewhere?hoping....Seaspyder

That's great, unfortunately Vista 64 bit doesn't seem to like those ones, any word on anything that'll work on 64 bit Vista?
