Vista & 2003 Server DFS
I currently run a fairly large network of XP workstations/laptops and Windows 2003 servers. I have recently added about 15 Vista machines to the network. All machines were working very well without a problem, until now. Users are reporting that their access to the DFS share at our head office is constantly dropping out and showing as unreachable, then it will come back a few minutes later then drop out again. This cycle is repeated all day. This is effecting my Vista users only my XP users have no issues accessing the DFS Share. All connections to the DFS Share have been manually mapped ( \\domain.com.au\sharename ), I am not using scripts or policies to map the drive. The Vista users can access the main share and view a list of all folders therein, but cannot access any subfolders at all. Permissions have not changed. When the connection comes back they can access as normal for a few minuts anyway. Outage lasts from a few minute to 40-45 minutes at a time. I have tried editing the Local Security Policy on a couple of the machines Local Policies>Security Options>Network Security: LAN Manager authentication Level Changed from Send NTLMv2 response only to Send LM & NTLMv2 session security if negotiated Local Policies>Security Options>Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously Changed to DFS$ I have checked over every other setting and can see nothing wrong with the security or share permissions. I have made no major changes to the network in the past few days, and I have been assured bythe "gentleman" working with me that he hasmade none either. The only changes made to the Vista machines have been the regular Windows Updates, done every Wednesday via WSUS. I am, for the first time, sort of stumped, I even have a call into Microsoft, and if I don't get a solution here I will post whatever they come back to me with (if it works). Dutchy

I've received an email from a gent named Dan at Microsoft, and I replied to him, I assume hes going to hang until I hear from someone regarding the case I have logged. I have a "workaround" in place so the staff can at least do their jobs. Still waiting on the call from "A Microsoft enginneer". Does anyone remember Millenium Edition, or am I being too hard on Vista? Printing from a network printer on a Windows 2003 Print Server via Vista leaves a bit to be desired as well, but that's another story. Dutchy
