Vista's wireless stack ignoring ICMPv6 RAs?
Has anyone seen this? I can reproduce the following on two different machines, both running Vista (one Basic, one Home Premium): Background: - Wireless network is native dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6). - Router is configured to generate ICMPv6 Router Advertisements (RAs.) - There is no DHCPv6 infrastructure, and accordingly neither the O or M bit is set in the RAs. Systems that do work: - Windows 2000 host running the Microsoft Research IPv6 kit - Any Windows XP machine tested. - Any Linux or FreeBSD machine tested. - Any MacOS X machine tested. Systems that do not work: - Vista Home Premium w/ Intel 3945ABG wireless card. - Vista Basic w/ Realtek wireless card. Both of these systems work fine, off the same RAs, when plugged into the switched segment of the same network. With Wireshark installed, I can capture the RAs on both systems via the wireless -- so they are receiving them. They both use different wireless cards from different vendors (and therefore different drivers.) So, under what circumstances does Vista simply ignore valid Router Advertisements? Thanks!
