What is the exact issue you are experiencing with Norton?Have you considered migrating from Norton to the freely available Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)? According to recent tests, MSE does a pretty good job of protecting Windows XP computers [1][2]. The main thing you might miss by migrating from Norton to MSE is the firewall. Your copy of Norton “probably” comes with a better firewall than the one that is built into XP. If on the other hand, you were to upgrade to Windows 7 and then use MSE, you would get the enhanced security of Windows 7 along with a 2 way Win7 firewall and the antivirus protection of MSE which would be an excellent combination. As such, I feel reasonably safe running the freely available MSE on top of Windows 7 Ultimate. I don’t see any reason to pay for an expensive annual AV Subscription when Microsoft can provide me with a free AV Solution that is comparable to most antivirus products currently on the market.Warning: Absolutely no warranty express or implied comes with this post.
