Virus keeps restarting my computer
Hi. I need some help. My computer got a trojan virus and when I tried to restart the computer, I couldn't get back to the user account, like the computer kept restarting over and over again. Is there any solution to this problem? If anyone can help, that would be great. Thank you.

Can you get into Safe Mode? If yes, then follow the very thorough steps here: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware You will obviously need to get removal tools from a working, known-clean machine. If you can't get into Safe Mode, then there are still a few things you can do. Doing these things requires a certain level of computer skills. You know yourself best and whether taking the machine to a competent local computer tech (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place) is the better solution for you. 1. Boot the computer with one of the rescue CDs provided by an antivirus company and scan with it. Here are a few links: http://www.avira.com/en/support/faq/details.html?id=230 http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00001474.html None of the methods in #1 and #2 require you to purchase anything. 2. Or pull the drive and put it in a USB drive enclosure, attach to another working machine, scan using the working machine's antivirus/antispyware tools. I'm not fond of this method because there is a chance of infecting the host machine. 3. Boot with a Linux Live CD such as Knoppix and copy the data to an external hard drive. Then do a clean install of Windows. http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html - Clean Install How-To http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows - What you will need on-hand MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
