Virus - dummy Window
I have had several problems with my computer. I noticed that the security shied was telling me that my firewall was off but when I checked it was on. Also, when I turn off the computer I get a window that says:CL RC Engine 3 Dummy Winidow I also notivce that it seems that there are several CPU usage screens going at once. I have tried virus detection and cleaning but it is not finding anything.I get some "blue screens" as well and have had trouble getting explorer or firefox to go to any websites.

You will need to get malware removal tools and their updates from a different, known-clean computer. Go through these general malware removal steps systematically - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe Mode. Please see the special Notes regarding using Multi_AV in Vista. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your malware here: Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html Or here: Malwarebytes malware removal guides - http://tinyurl.com/5xrpft When all else fails, get guided help. Choose one of the specialty forums listed at the first link. Register and read its posting FAQ. PLEASE DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS FORUMS. If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Thanks I will try this. Someone told me that it's not a virus, but another issue with some of your system software. Is this possible?Katharine

There is no way for me to tell without seeing the machine. Perhaps taking it to a competent local professional will be a better course of action for you. I don't recommend using a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I thought these forums were to offer ideas to fix the problem so I don't have to go to a professional. I would have thought a hijack log might have helped. Anyway, I managed to clean the computer with Anti Malware although I think there might also be a hardware or software issue. The problem seems resolved for now.

These forums do offer ideas to fix problems. However, the reality is that not all problems can be fixed without someone skilled being hands-on the machine. Hence my standard suggestion. We don't analyze HijackThis logs here. It takes a great deal of expertise, training, and time to do so correctly. For the future, here is a list of some specialty forums where you can post HJT logs: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#HJT-links MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
