Virtual Server 2005 R2 on Windows Vista x64 - RAM Limitation
Hi All, I have Windows Vista 64-bit with 8gb RAM and Virtual Server 2005 R2 installed. When I assigned 1gb per Virtual Machine, I can only a lot of total 3.5gb. Is there a way to maximize thememory on Virtual Machines? I tried also using Virtual PC but no luck, I can only allot of 3.4gb. Regards, Jesus L. Saavedra Jr.

Hi, Have your Windows Vista system recognized the memory properly? Please launch Task Manager, click the Performance tab. Please confirm if the Total Physical Memory is shown as 8GB. If the memory is shown properly, we are not able to resolve this issue on Windows Vista side. Please contact technical support for Virtual Server. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/threads/ However, if the total memory is not correct in Task Manager, the reason may be that Memory Remap feature is not enabled in BIOS. Please enter BIOS and enable Memory Remap. The detail information for configuring BIOS can be found in the instruction of the motherboard. If the issue occurs when Memory Remap is enabled, please let me know if the memory sticks are the same model. If the sticks are working in different frequencies, Windows Vista may only recognize the stick that is running in higher frequency. On some motherboard Windows Vista can recognize both if the faster memory stick is installed in primary slot. Hope it helps.
