Virtual Machine Failes to Start: Server execution failed (0x80080005).

Hi

I have a Windows 8.1 (with updates) System which was upgraded from Windows 8.0 using a Clean Install. Recently Hyper-V has stopped running on my system.

The Event log shows an error:

The Hyper-V-VMMS Admin Log shows the error:

The Hyper-V Worker Log shows the error:

The Virtual Machine Worker Process has lost its connection to the root\virtualization WMI namespace: General access denied error (0x80070005). As a result, some WMI operations may not function correctly. To correct the problem, try restarting the Windows Management Instrumentation service.

I set the Hyper-V Tracing to ON using vmconnect.config file and the error log is as follows:

I am unable to create new VMs as well.

I have already run

  1. sfc/ scannow
  2. DISM

Already Tried disabling the antivirus

Upon using wbemtest and connecting to root\virtualization, I am able to click Enum Classes > Recursive

Kindly suggest how to get HyperV working please. Any help (short of reinstalling /resetting windows) would be much appreciated.

Warm Regards,

Dr Vivek Gupta

Hi,

The key point would be this:

The Virtual Machine Worker Process has lost its connection to the root\virtualization WMI namespace: General access denied error (0x80070005).

Please open MMC, add Component Services snap-in:

Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer -> DCOM Config -> Windows Management Instrumentation -> Right Click, Properties -> Security Launch and Activation Permission -> Edit -> gave Authenticated Users  Full Control

Check the result.

Hi,

You mentioned you are unable to create new Virtual Machine? What's the error you are thrown with?

Sidetrack, I don't suppose recommend you to store the VHD or VMs file directly on the C root path. The default for Hyper-V should be under C:\users\public\~

Did you change it somehow?

Anyone have a solution to this? I am having the same problem but on Windows 2008 R2 SP1. Just started yesterday and have an open incident with Microsoft, but not even they can help.

Hi Andrea,

Do you have the same error information? If so, have you tried my suggestion?

If not, I suggest you start a new thread in Windows Server forum for help.

Hi Alex,

I am also facing the same issue (when I am trying to start Hyper-V machine, I used this VM earliest so many times in the same laptop) in my Windows 8.1 system.

Error : "XXXXX failed to start worker process server execution failed 0x80080005"

Any solution for this.

I deleted the saved status and tried to start, but no use.

I tried the above steps mentioned by you, but no use.

Could you please help me on this.
