Viewing Remote Printers in Windows 7
Hi, our college is going through a Windows 7 upgrade phase right now. In Windows XP, whenever we would look at a computer over the network (ie: \\computer1), we would be able to view all of the printers installed on that machine. Now, whenever we do it in
Windows 7 and we click on the "View Remote Printers" tab, nothing shows. For some reason, it works on mine and one of my coworker's laptop, but not any other desktop that we've put Windows 7 on. Is there a reason for this? We've checked most of the
Advanced Network Sharing settings and compared them to our own with others out there and can't seem to tell any noticeable difference.
Also, yes. The admin share (\\computer1\c$) is still turned on and works.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
It’s best to provide a screenshot for us.
How to capture a screenshot
1)
Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
2)
Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.
3)
In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save".
4)
The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".
5)
Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save".
6)
Then
Upload to SkyDrive.
Meanwhile, please confirm the following:
·
Check if the "Network discovery" and "File and printer sharing" settings are turned on in all of your machines.
·
Make sure your firewall allows file and printer sharing. You can also temporary disable the firewall to test the result.
·
Ensure the printer is shared and its permissions are proper.
·
Check if the printer can be accessed via “\\IP Address\printer”
or “\\computername\printer”.
