Very slow wireless speed
Hi, recently I was experiencing trouble with my wireless connection. It takes a really long time to get anything done, and with my service provider that should not happen. I am sitting right next to the router as we speak and nothing changes. My speed test reads a ping of usually around 15, with download and upload speeds almost nonexistant <1. However, when I connect manually to a wired connection my download and upload speed increases to around 25 and 4 respectively. I've made sure all of my drivers are up to date, I've tried troubleshooting to no avail, and I've tried restarting my computer multiple times. Nothing seems to increase my wireless speed, why am I having this problem?

1. What do you mean by 15, <1, 25 and 4? Mbps? 2. Is there any trace in event logs? 3. Is this from the beginning or after update or install? 4. You can troubleshoot the communication by network monitor (either from Microsoft or free Wireshark http://www.wireshark.org/) Regards Milos

what kind of wireless router are you using?
May 14th, 2012 8:22am

1. Yes, I mean MBPS 2. What do you mean by trace logs? I don't know how to access them. 3. I noticed it yesterday, and I installed an update two days agg. 4. Whenever I troubleshoot, my computer tells me nothing is wrong because my wifi still works a bit, but it is really slow. I've ruled out any sort of interference, because my desktop sits right next to my router and works fine, and I've tried putting my computer next to the router and it still goes at a snails pace.

Yeah, just type my IP into the browser right?
May 14th, 2012 4:19pm

not your ip. the ip of the router...ususally its 192.168.1.1 for linksys ones. then the user/pass is admin/admin Try going there and take a screenshot of the wireless settings and post it here. Blot out anything like SSID name.

I would advise you to change the channel that the wireless router is using, as the channel might be saturated by other users. There is good software to check this using your smart phone.Website: www.danielclasson.com | LinkedIn: Daniel Classon

I have been testing it out over the last two days and I was able to rule out a few things. My wifi works fine at other locations, and my other computers wifi works fine at my house. There is something wrong with the connection between my computer and my router, what can you make of a problem like that?

No updates available for either my computer or my router :(. There is something funky between just my router and computer.

All connections to the router will be affected, but it shouldn't stop working. If it for some reason doesn't work after changing the channel, just change it back.Website: www.danielclasson.com | LinkedIn: Daniel Classon
