Very long delays opening network shares from other PCs????
I am having some issues related to Networking/File Sharing with Vista machines. When ANY computer tries to access a share on a Vista computer it takes a very long time before the share opens (or the login prompt for the share). This happens from XP machines as well as other Vista machines. I have 4 vista machines and accessing shares on any of them has the same issue. (2 are 32bit 2 are x64) I originally had them all connected in a D-Link router but I have moved them all to a gigabit ethernet switch. The situation has not changed at all. Any ideas what is causing this long delay? It can be from 30 seconds to 1+ minutes before I get the login prompt or shared folder to open.

I am having the exact same problem! 3 brand new HP Vista Home Premium machines with a CNET 8 port switch (nothing about compatibility on Cnet site). Internet access is fine through a D-link broadband router. 90 percent of the time I can print to either HP755 plotter or my Sharp arm450 printer with no problems or delays. I was going to get another switch but upon seeing your message I decided against it and am looking for another answer! Vista seems to be the culprit to me. I had no problems with XP and so far Vista is not better and easier to network and manage than ever! glennoff
