Version information not displaying properly in File Properties Details tab
On Window 7 Professional x64 a SYS file is missing all Version information when displaying the File Properties / Details tab (see screen shot below). Yet on another machine configured exactly the same, the exact same file is displaying the version information properly. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and what to look at? Thanks.

This is ok. The developers of the driver must include the VersionInfo info: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa381058%28VS.85%29.aspx Is the same driver having the information on the other PC or is this a different driver? After searching the WWW for nlem1402.sys I can't find a result. Maybe this is malware. Make a full scan with an AntiVirus Scanner like Microsoft Security Essentials and also scan your PC with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Sorry I wasn't clear. This is my SYS file. (Definitely not malware!) The version information is in there and it is properly signed. But for some reason the Details tab is showing up blank on one specific machine.

hmm, this is interesting. Can you please run Process Monitor [1] in background and select the properties again? Now stop the PM trace and go through the events and filter all SUCCESS results out. Now look what fails. Maybe you can see the cause. André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Is there some special version information that needs to be included in Windows 2008 x64? Is there some version information that should not be included?

Is there some version information that should not be included? there is no special version needed. Can you reproduce this? If yes, contact the MS support. Interesting. Can you see version info of other sys files on this machine? If no, it is yet another win7 shell problem. Otherwise, try this to tweak your version info (before signing the sys) and see if it helps. -- pa

Interesting observation. Yes, in fact NONE of the files show version information, so it appear to be a shell problem. I applied all the latest important updates and the problem still exists. Wonder why I am the only one seeing it. I did try filever.exe, but interestingly filever.exe does not work on files in system32. I had to move the file to another directory first.

I did try filever.exe, but interestingly filever.exe does not work on files in system32. I had to move the file to another directory first. this is because of the UAC, you have to run the tool with admin rights to modify files in the system32 folder: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-do-I-run-an-application-once-with-a-full-administrator-access-token But I still don't understand why it doesn't work for you. If you can reproduce it, contact the support. Otherwise you get no fix."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
