Various maintenance problems
HiOn my desktop I have only one icon, Recycle bin, (Taskbar & start button are fine). However, if I open desktop in explorer, as you would expect there are these icons:My documentsMy computerMy network placesRecycle binInternet explorerThese are obviously ordinary icons NOT shortcuts ie do not have the little box with the arrow in it.Why do these items not come up on my desktop and how do I fix this please? I have checked that explorer.exe is running ok.In addition, when you click on the start button, I believed that there was a direct link to the control panel. I haven’t got one. I can only open Control panel by opening My Computer and clicking on the link on the left hand side in the “other places” section or by opening Explorer. On checking in MSconfig, in the start up tab, there is a box with a tick, but has no name under the “start up item” heading, has no name under the “Command” heading but says under the “Location” heading: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer... and then I can’t read anymore. I don’t know whether or not to disable it or if it is something that I need that is corrupt or something?Any ideas? Incidentally I am running on XP service pack 3Thanks in advance for any replies.1 person needs an answerI do too

But, I would still appreciate any help with my question about MS Config.ThanksHi,Unfortunately some programs even if they uninstalled can leave empty start up entry behind them. This may be why you are seeing this entry and may more than one entry in your msconfig.Use the steps below on the link and if that doesn't help use the Msconfig cleanup tool.Cleanup the MSCONFIG startup tab listings in Windows XPhttp://windowsxp.mvps.org/MSCONFIG.htmMSConfig Cleanuphttp://www.get-in-control.com/msconfig-cleanup/Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malwarehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exenass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
