Valid password does not unlock laptop when resuming from standy
I have a HP ProBook 6440b, intel core i5, 6GB DDR3 running Windows 7 ultimate x64 and joined to a windows server 2008 domain.
When I close the laptop, without logging off, it goes into standby. When I open it back up, I am at the ctrl+alt+del to unlock screen. When I enter the password, I get "invalid password"
If I select switch user, and login again using the same username that is already logged in, and the same password that just failed, it works. Any ideas?

Could it be something simple like the laptop automatically enabling CAPSLOCK or NUMLOCK when resuming from standby?

I checked caps lock, and I don't use the number pad (or have a number pad

Regardless of whether you use NUMLOCK, is the laptop enabling it when coming out of standby? I have seen this on various machines over time. As a troubleshooting tip, connect a USB keyboard to the laptop and try logging back in using that - it will
at least eliminate the laptop keyboard behaviour as the problem.

Hi,
Regarding the symptom, I would like to provide the following options:
1.
It can be caused by screen saver with password protected. Please disable Screen Saver to test if the issue persists.
2.
Create a new administrator account with password, then lock and unlock the computer for a test.
3.
Boot in Safe Mode to test.
Best Regards
Dale
