VSS Shadow Copy and Previous Versions in Windows Explorer
When I look at the Previous Versions tab of a file in Windows Explorer, I am told that no previous versions are available. The file is one that I update many tiems throughout the day, and that is part of my file backup routine that I run every night. I checked the VSS Shadow Copy , and the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider services. Both are set to manual and are enabled. I ran a backup, and both started up when the backup program kicked off. When the backup program finished, I checked a couple of files that should have changed - still no previous versions available. System restore is enabled for the drive (partition) in question. I checked the drive in Windows Explorer - it has a populated System Volume folder. I looked in one of the zip files that was created in my last backup - the outlook.pst file was backed up. I right clicked on that file in Windows Explorer - there are no previous versions displayed. Is there anything else I should be doing? Can someone suggest a test that I can run to see what is wrong? I looked in the event log - backup does start and complete successfully. Found the answer in this discussion: http://dreamlayers.blogspot.com/2009/09/in-vista-previous-versions-tab-requires.html Administrative shares have to been enabled for this feature to work. Details are in the above link - this is for Vista but worked in Win 7.
