VSS Error
Hi!I am running Windows XP Professional (SP3).I used two different back up programs in my computer (Bad idea!). As a result, the VSS Service got screwed up and the back up programs didn't work. Someone suggested I run a series of tasks to fix it (listed below), which I did.Is there a way to check if the VSS Service is really fixed?Thank you.Dr. T.Go to Start>Run and type in: command (Then hit [ENTER]) That Will Open Command Prompt Type in this command in dos window: CD \Windows\System32 (Then hit [ENTER]) Then run those commands: Net stop vssNet stop swprvregsvr32 ole32.dllregsvr32 vss_ps.dllVssvc /Registerregsvr32 /i swprv.dllregsvr32 /i eventcls.dllregsvr32 es.dllregsvr32 stdprov.dllregsvr32 vssui.dllregsvr32 msxml.dllregsvr32 msxml3.dllregsvr32 msxml4.dll Reboot your computer.

Hi Dr.T.,· What error message you receive for Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)?· What happens when you try to start the Volume Shadow Copy Service?· Did you make any software or hardware changes on your computer prior to this issue?· Which backup softwares you have installed?Let’s follow these methods and check if it helps.Method 1You may uninstall the third party backup softwares from Add or Remove Programs and use only the Windows Backup utility. Thereafter, check if the issue persists.Method 2You may also run System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.a. Type ‘cmd’ in Start > Run box. Right click on cmd in the Program list and then select the option Run as administrator.b. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannowFor more information refer this link.Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)Hope the information helps. Hi!I started the VSS Service and I got no errors. Therefore, I assume it's ok.When I restart the computer, it does not show as running, which might or might not be ok. I don't know. The program that I will run - Paragon back up (which uses the VSS Service) - might call the Service on its own. I don't know. The next step is to run the Paragon back up program and see what happens.Thank you.Dr. T.
