VPN with Windows 7 Client - Unable to see network shares
Hello, I am having difficulty setting up a VPN between my home and my father's. Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have set his as the server, and when I use mine, I am able to access his computer (In Network and Sharing - I see I am connected), but am unable to access the network shares. I enter the private IP designated for the VPN Connection, but still am unable to see the computer. In the Network tab on explorer, I can see my LAN at home (with my switch, gateway and both computers at home) but can't see my father's. When I use my android phone to connect to his computer via VPN, I connect easily and can access the files through the ESExplorer app on the phone, so I do believe the VPN is working, and the settings are correct. I am just wondering why I am unable to see the shares on my computer, or if I am doing something wrong in accessing them on my windows machine. Please help. Thanks

Hi, Try to temporary disable firewall and antivirus programs for test. Also disable IPv6 and enable NetBIOS over Tcp/IP. If the issue persists, you can try to perform this: Note: You’d better backup the registry before change it. 1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list. If you are prompted for the administrator password or for a confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netbt\Linkage 3. On the File menu, click Export. 4. In the Save box, specify a location where you want to save the file. 5. In the File name box, enter a name for the file. 6. In the Save as type box, click Registry Files. 7. In the Export range box, click Selected branch, and then click Save. 8. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netbt\Linkage 9. In the details pane, right-click the Bind registry entry in the Name column, click Modify, and then copy the data in the Value data box to the clipboard. 10. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\smb\Linkage 11. In the details pane, right-click the Bind entry in the Name column, click Modify, paste the data from the clipboard to the Value data text box to override the original data, and then click OK. 12. Exit Registry Editor, and restart the computer This article may helpful to you also: VPN clients are unable to access resources beyond the VPN server: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772616(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_5 Regards, Leo Huang Leo Huang TechNet Community Support
