VPN is forced via dialup not current Internet connection.
I have Vista RTM installed. When I try to define a VPN connection. I choose "Connect to a workplace". Then I choose "Use my Internet connection(VPN). I fill out standard Internet address of VPN server, user name, etc. Then Connect. I get wizard cannot connect, Try again, Diagnose, Setup connection anyway. When I do the Setup connection anyway, I see an Icon in my Network Connections with "Unavailable - device missing". It is like I set it up for modem connection. I do not want the VPN to go through any modem, I want it to go through my current LAN connection which works fine. This was never a problem with XP. I have turned off all firewall and One-Care, and Defender services. I tried to "Connect to the Internet" from Choose a Connection option and I get a dialog saying "You are already connected to the Internet". If I choose "Set up a new connection anyway" I get a choice of "Broadband(PPPoE) or dial-up. I don't want either. Thanks for any input. Doug

I too am having this same exact problem, if anyone has any solutions, I'd greatly appreciate some help. I'll include some info from my system, maybe it'll be useful. All of my drivers installed fine and everything works perfectly, minus this, so I doubt it's a driver issue i.e. Vista can't find my internet connection because the driver isn't installed for my NIC. Hi, I was having the same problem and what I did that corrected the problem for me was: went into the properties of the network adapter and added all the possible options (I am not sure which one is the exact one that was needed or there might be a combination of them needed to work properly) the following steps are the easiest ones I found... 1) right click on local area network and select properties 2) Install all available options from client, services, and protocols. 3) We do not use IP Version 6 so I unchecked that once it was installed. 4) rebooted now I am able to see all computers on my network and able to access them as well...

Same problem here. It used to work fine. I think i started having a problem when i entered and incomplete phone number into a contact in Outlook, because it then launched the modem configuration wizard. My laptop doesn't even have a modem!Vista EnterpriseBrad

OK, I fixed this by:1. Rebooting.2. Deleting my existing VPN connection3. Creating a new "Internet Connection". I think I just basically launched my browser to show the OS that I was connected to the internet.4. Recreate my VPN connection. As a side note, it is properly recognized as a VPN connection, instead of a dial up connection.Sorry I can't be more specific. This is terrible bug.

I'm having the same problem in Windows 7. I've tried different fixes but none of them worked. Can I get any suggestions?
