VPN in Windows 7 not working, but working with XP
I am currently far from home attempting to make a VPN connection to my home computer. I am using a new laptop I got that has Windows 7 Ultimate. At home, I have a laptop that is always on running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have setup that computer to receive an incoming VPN connection. My previous laptop, which I still have, is running Windows XP Pro SP3. I have successfully connected to home computer using the VPN connection many times with the old laptop. I have also brought my old laptop with me to where I am now, and can still connect just fine with it. So I know the router at home is working, and there are no outside factors affecting my problem. The problem itself is that with this new laptop, I am unable to establish a connection. I have duplicated the settings as far as I can tell perfectly with the new computer. I can establish a connection and get authenticated, but I cannot ping the home computer by netbios name, or use the unc path in windows explorer. Yet I can do all of these things from the same location using my old computer. On the old computer, windows firewall is completely disabled. I have tried that with windows 7 on the new computer and still no luck. All other settings regarding DNS, remote gateway, etc are matched up. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here? Thanks in advance for the help.
