VPN Troubles
I have created a VPN with Server 2008. I created a connection on my home system, which is running Win 7 Ultimate. I can connect to the VPN fine, and ping the server also. however, I can't connect to my server shares, also when I disconnect the connection, I can then access my server shares and also map drives as needed. when I delete my VPN connection from the adapter settings, I can still access the VPN shares. the only way to disconnect from the VPN is to turn off the network adapter, but when I turn the adapter back on the VPN shares become available, even without the connection available and or connected.

Hi, Please try to access the shared folder using the IP address of the server. \\IPAddress\ShareFolder Then access the shared folder using FQDN name: \\server.domain.com\shared_folder Meanwhile, please check if you configure Windows 7 VPN to use the default gateway on remote network. 1) Go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”. 2) Right-click the VPN connection and click Properties. 3) Switch to Networking tab, click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties. 4) Click Advanced, click to select the Use default gateway on remote network check box, and then click OK.
