VPN Shortcuts
Does anybody know a way to make a Shortcut to a VPN connection? I do a lot of remote working and find it useful to have all my VPN's and .rdp files in a desktop folder.

!Bump! Additionally, has anybody found away to display a VPN connection in a separate systemtray icon ala Windows XP? I like to mnitor VPN activity as opposed to just all activity on the network adaptor and [right click > disconnect] is easier than [right click>disconect >select the connection]?

I'm with you on that....just got Vista today with the action pack. I'm not liking a lot of the features...especially if you are a tech, and need hyperteminal and telnet. Like you, I like to organize all of my VPNs and Connection apps in folder, so that I can make a group on the sidebar (desktop sidebar still kicks Vista's Sidebar). Post if you have any luck figuring out how to make a shortcut from the VPN ------------------------- Found it.... When you are in the Network and Sharing Center Click on Manage Network Connections (left pane) This is the same window that you would see with XP....that was going to jack me up if you couldn't make a shortcut for that. I would just love to see all of my clients having to navigate through all that to get to the VPN! Still know luck on seeing multiple active network connections....This about to give me a headache...lol. Seems like everything is there, but just in different locations and different ways to implement. Oh well, keeps things a little interesting.

hi, a shortcut to VPN is about as easy as before. Simplyclick on "managenetwork connections" in the network center and drag a shortcut of your vpn connection to the tray or desktop. But with vista i am experiencing a few issues with vpn on all my machines. most annoyingly sometimes it is just not possible to disconnect a VPN connection. Even disabling the underlying LAN connection would leave it open. "disconnect" just gives no feedback and only a reboot really helps. that means once the vpn adapter goes buggy i actually have to reboot to get it up again. hope this helps, cheers - matthias

I work with multiple VPN icons on my desktop thanks to your post. My issue is when I want to switch VPN's quickly and disconect one to connect to another I have about 900 moves instead of the XP's sys tray/right click and disconect. Any progress on this yet?

To connect, create a shortcut to %windir%\system32\rasdial.exe "VPN NAME" USERNAME PASSWORD /DOMAINOMAINSo for example%windir%\system32\rasdial.exe "MyVPN" ben mypassword /DOMAIN:MEDIA(Note that the /DOMAIN flag is optional and not required if connecting to a domain is not necessary)To disconnect, create a shortcut to %windir%\system32\rasdial.exe "VPN Name" /DISCONNECTSo for example %windir%\system32\rasdial.exe "MyVPN" /DISCONNECT
