VPN Connections
Hi, this may be more of an XP problem but here it is, trying to set up a VPN from laptop running Vista to Network with BelkinN1 wireless router and PC`s running XP, fixed ip for wan provided by ISP, windows one care on all PC`s/laptop. Set up VPN on laptop using windows connection wizard with fixed IP and User/pwd for PC in Belkin router DMZ (where the ISP static ip points to PC's ip), Set PPTP for port 1723 in Virtual Servers area of the router to open port with private IP of PC we want to connect too, checked local access on network to PC OK. Setup incomming user and vpn connection on PC. Connection error laptop reports - ip address not set for PPTP. Have tried with all firewalls off, onecare disabled on both laptop and PC, router firewall disabled. Are there some text book settings for this? Have spoken to Belkin who say the router is set correctly, I am sure the problem is with the port settings, we added 80 & 500, what are we missing? Are there more ports we should open for windowsvpn.I realise that thismay bebasic stuff but we have been at this for weeks now, any help much appreciated.

Make sure port numbers are correct. You can also try putting the vpn ip address in DMZ ( An option on Belkin wireless router setup page ) . Once you enable this option routers firewall will not block the connection. Also try updating the firmware of your router
