VPN Connection Problem
Hi,
I've 2 VPN accounts, all of them connect but after connecting, it seems i've no internet connection.
PING and TRACERT respond correctly, but browsers (IE, FF, gglChrome) don't open any pages and i get error number 404 (Page not found), so Yahoo Messenger does.
There is a registry file which includes:
...........
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\Parameters]
"ProhibitIpSec"=dword:00000001
.............
They asked me to run it and reboot the system (didn't help)
What i did:
1. Cleared all browsers cache.
2. Reset winsock with netsh.
3. Gave the account to 2 friends, they can connect and work without problem.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
There's something with my browsers... but i don't know what and how to resolve.
Plz help me, thanks a lotMCP#3314468 MCSA:Security, MCSE:Security

It could be that the VPN endpoint you are connecting to does not allow you to have Internet access since this creates a potential security hole for the remote network you are connecting to. If that is the case, you should consider setting up a split tunnel
on your local connection. Internet traffic will be routed outside of the VPN connection while traffic destined for the remote network will be routed thru the VPN.
There are many ways to set this up and it all depends on the hardware and software you are running in your configuration."It's a tough life... but someone has to enjoy it!"

Your first sentence said you have two VPN accounts, that you can connect to the tunnel, yet you have no Internet access. Upon re-reading your post, I see that you stated in item #3 that you gave the accounts to two friends and that they can connect and work
without problems. I assume they have full Internet access after connecting to the tunnel. I also assume they are using different equipment than you.
You also stated that you think the problem is with all of your browsers. The evidence suggests that it is not browser related at all. The problem lies somewhere in the configuration of your computer or firewall settings that are common to the VPN setup and
to the Internet connection at the endpoint.
Can you connect to the Internet without using the VPN connection?
You have provided so little detail on your setup (and your two friends setups) that it is nearly impossible to debug your problem. Otherwise, any recommendations by anyone will simply be a stab in the dark.
One final suggestion though would be for you to enable logging on your VPN connection(s) to try and pin down where the failure is coming from."It's a tough life... but someone has to enjoy it!"

Hello,
I am assuming you are using the Windows VPN client. If so:
1. go to the VPN properties
2. Networking tab
3. TCP/IP Properties
4. Advanced Tab
5. Uncheck Use Defaul Gateway On Remote Network

software maybe, hardware NO ! i'm sure about that.
I always turn windows firewall off instead i've a 3rd party, but disabled and exited it completely to make sure it's not the cause.
Yes, i can connect to the internet without that VPN.
It's not my business what's going on my friends' PCs ! so i don't know their setup.
I'll tell u what, there's a 3rd party VPN named "your-freedom" for website put a ".net" @ the end. i can connect and browse with all browsers while i'm connecting to it.

The log does not contain any events related to an attempt to browse a website while connected to the tunnel. In fact, it contains very little useful information at all. You need a detailed log that shows the connection process, successful establishment of
a VPN connection, and any log entries of your communication while using the tunnel (aka trying to browse a website). We're looking for blocked ports or protocols.
Unless you are using split tunneling, then once connected to the VPN, everything goes thru the tunnel and is controlled by the VPN server.
Since you said you can connect to the VPN and use ping and tracert then do these tasks:
Once connected to the tunnel:
1) Do ipconfig /all to list all network adapter configurations - Post results here.
2) Do a route print - post results here.
3) Do an nslookup of Google.com - post results here.
4) Do a Ping of Google.com - post results here.
5) Do a Ping of one or more of the IP addresses for Google.com returned by nslookup - post results here.
6) Check to see if you can establish an FTP login thru the tunnel to an FTP site on the Internet.
7) Likewise, see if you can send/receive email thru the tunnel.
If these are all successful, then you have connectivity to the Internet out the other side of the tunnel and you have working DNS as well. This points toward the problem being related to a port/protocol issue relevant to web browsing.
Beyond that, here are some links for you about all things VPN (from Microsoft):

Looking at your info, you have no default gateways defined for any of your routable interfaces. The wired Ethernet LAN interface is sandboxed because it's looking for a DHCP server and cannot find one.
Looks like you have an ADSL card in your computer connecting to your Internet provider rather than using a traditional external cable/DSL modem and router setup on the LAN.
And WOW! What's up with those 75 different network interfaces? I'd disable IPv6 support if you don't need it. This would simplify things considerably.
With your routing table configuration, if it is correct, perhaps you need to enable IP routing on your computer. The Routing and Remote Access service will enable this capability.
There are just my thoughts. However, I'm no expert at Routing table configuration. The info you have posted should be a great start for someone on this forum more skilled than I to figure out your issue.
For now, I would try and simplify your setup as much as possible and debug from there."It's a tough life... but someone has to enjoy it!"

Hello,
After looking the the IP config, I concur with Jagade about several factors. What does the IPCONFIG look like when you are NOT on the VPN and Internet is working? This setup is a bit off the common.
Also, the default gateway for the PPPoE is 0.0.0.0, why is that? It looks like the PC is acting as a router routing because you have a route 0.0.0.0 74.169.96.12 so 0.0.0.0 is being sent to the PPPoE interface but then what's the next hop if the
PPPoE's default gateway is 0.0.0.0? What's weird is that Ping works!
