I am having a similar issue on a new Vista Business Laptop. This laptop is a domain member and works perfectly when connected to the local network. However have had the following problems when trying to connect via my home internet using vpn in to work network. 1st attempt - appeared to connect to vpn but would not access anything. after closing connection and later trying again, I could not log in to laptop. The password had changed to the one for the vpn connection. Fixed this by logging back in on the LAN next day. Since then have been able to connect vpn and use management applications, however shortcuts to shares (e.g. \\server\share) refuse to open. They usually mention password user incorrect or too many password changes or just that the username and password have already been tried and do not work. Also noticed that everytime I try to open this directory my domain account gets locked out. The same shortcuts / setup works perfectly from a XP SP2 laptop connecting using the same accounts. Have tried several of the "fixes" on other threads, the one helped get the vpn connection to work correctly but so far cannot see a fix for this issue. Have tried using different vpn accounts but same result (thought it might be that vpn user name and windows logon name were the same). Iam surewhat is happening is that the vpn user name and password are being used in preference to my domain username and password but how do you stop this? Help. I need to start using this laptop for support soon but so far not reliable enough to give up the XP one.

Dave, you are right in the above statement. When you have an active VPN connection, it is true that your vpn credentials are used in preference to the domain credentials. You can execute the following command to delete these VPN credentials from the credential manager and hence make sure your domain credentials are used by default. cmdkey.exe /delete /ras Thanks, Janani http://blogs.technet.com/rrasblog mailto:rrasblog@microsoft.com

Hi Dieter, Windows Vista has a bug wherein it is not possible to access shares on a machine from a Vista machine if NetBT is disabled on the Vista box or port 139 is blocked. The issue is fixed in SP1 Beta. The fix is also available from Microsoft support. You can just call them and ask them for the fix. The KB number associated with the fix is 933468. The title of the problem is "SMB (port 445) does not bind on Vista over RAS connection " Please install this fix. You problemshould getresolved. If the fix doesnt solve your issue please write to me (aanandr@microsoft.com).thanks Aanand

Thanks Janani, This solution works but is a command which needs to be run everytime I have connected the vpn. Good old fashioned batch file has sorted outhaving to type the command in, now just haveto remember to use itevery time. Is there a fix in SP1?

I've just deployed a number of Vista laptops and they are experiencing the problem as described above. Removing the stored username and password does allow them to connect to network resource but i do not want them to have to run a script or bat file each time. I have attempted to install the hotfix as described in KB 933468 but this did not fix the problem. I have also tried the registry fix suggested in the same article. Has anyone had any success in fixed this permanently? Thanks,

I am having the same problem - can connect to the remote site, ping any machine, but can't access any shared resource with \\server. I have tried the registry fix, rebooted Vista, run cmdkey.exe /delete /ras, put my local Domain or Workgroupinto the DNS suffix on this connection, all to no avail. Note that the site I am connecting to does not operate as a domain, and neither does mine. We both use a Workgroup. I don't know if that makes any difference. Using XP I can connect reliably every time, and even running XP as a Virtual m/c under Vista Business! Any help appreciated. Regards Andrew
