VOB File decryption issue

Hello,

I am currently having an issue on my Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center Add-On OS.  Prior to updating to Windows 8.1, I had no issues playing DVD (.VOB) utilizing GraphEDT.  After updating to Windows 8.1, this no longer works.  As opposed to normally playing the DVD as it did before.  Now, the audio comes in fine, but the screen is black, and occasionally blocky, with bits of the .VOB able to be viewed.

I had tried to do some research on my own.  I found that there was a Date Modified difference between mine and a friends PC.  Through instructions received from TechNet, I was able to change these files (msmpeg2vdec.dll), but the same result occurred.  I removed all 3rd Party Codecs that I previously had installed.  But, the problem still occurs.    I have tried turning on and off Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, restarting each time.  But, the problem still occurs.  From, my initial feelings on this, it seems like there is an issue with the .VOB being decrypted by msmpeg2vdec.dll.  I do not know what other information I can provide to get this resolved.  But, I do need this resolved.  I am able to utilize Windows Media Center to properly play.  But, I am unable to utilze GraphEDT for this.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks in Advance,

Hi,

In my opinion, it should be Graphic driver problem, please try to reinstall or upgrade Graphic driver to be latest for test.

In addition, to check if this problem caused by WMC, you can try to play DVD with other player for test.

If there any progress with this problem, please feel let me know.

Roger,

I updated the Graphics Driver.  This did nothing.

I am also able to play in WMC, and other DVD Playing programs.  I have always been able to do this. This is not the problem.

The problem is, that when I try to access the DLL (msmpeg2vdec.dll) at a lower level using GraphEDT, I get what I described above.  I was actually able to now see this as well on a Friends PC.  But, they actually received an error:

"Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed.

Can't play back this DVD-video disc."

There is something I believe wrong in the DLL.  I was actually able to resolve my issue by utilizing DScaler, combined with 3rd Party Codecs.  Though, I can replicate my error immediately by uninstalling both.  Because, when I do this, now my graph is showing that I am using a Microsoft MPEG Decoder.

I really hope that this does get investigated a little bit further into.  This has been a problem for me for many months now.  I have opened different questions, and all I get is a quick answer, and it gets marked off instantly.  When I state that it's not answered, I never get a response again, and have to open another thread.  I have seen many different people suffer from this, and it seems to just get swept to the wayside.

Best,

Robert Milicia
